Derek Ream, Psy.D., M.S.

Psychologist | Owner & CEO

Hi there! I’m Dr. Derek Ream, a Psychologist and the Owner and CEO of Sugar Land Psychological Associates. My professional work includes individual and group psychotherapy, enhanced by my specialization in psychological and forensic psychological assessments. My areas of practice include treating insomnia, trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD, and chronic pain. Additionally, I have a significant interest in assisting both current and former military personnel and law enforcement officers.

My professional background includes previous roles as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, a Psychologist in the Substance Disorders Treatment Program at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, an Adjunct Professor at Clark State College, and a Forensic Psychologist with Forum Ohio, LLC. In academia, I’ve published peer-reviewed book chapters and journal abstracts, and presented extensively in the areas of neuropsychology, rehabilitation psychology, and cognitive neuroscience at various national and international conferences.

I have served on committees with the American Academy of Clinical Psychology, Ohio Psychological Association, and Texas Psychological Association, where I have actively advocated for prescribing privileges for psychologists—a cause I continue to support passionately today. I am also in the process of completing my post-doctoral master’s degree in clinical psychopharmacology, working toward my goal of becoming a prescribing psychologist.

When I’m not seeing patients or managing my group practice, I enjoy attending concerts, playing video games, visiting the shooting range, and exploring global cuisines through cooking. On a personal note, I’m married to Dr. Andre Fernandes, and we share our home with our two dogs, Giovani and Annie. Before I became a psychologist, I was a professional orchestral bass trombonist, having performed with a variety of orchestras across the U.S., and trained at the New England Conservatory of Music, which gives me a unique perspective in my current work.
